Following the government request for everyone to stop non-essential contact with others, the Harker’s Yard Gig Association (HYGA) advises following Government / Public Health England guidance to reduce the social interaction between people.
Clubs and individuals should consider whether to limit gig rowing activity – including leisure rowing, training and any racing for as long as is necessary.
This advice has been taken in the interests of HYGA clubs’ rowers, coxes, supporters and the wider gig rowing community, following the latest government guidance and in response to fellow coastal rowing associations, including the Cornish Pilot Gig Association, who have advised against all CPGA gig rowing activity.
Where possible all are encouraged to maintain their own fitness and well-being, while following government guidelines about safe distance and safe exercise environments.
The HYGA will continue to review and monitor government advice and provide updates to member clubs in the coming weeks.
